Mr Gershon Oliver

Gershon started participating in the PSEF since 2012 within his capacity as an Economist at the Western Cape Provincial Treasury. He later re-joined the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) in 2016 and re-commenced his involvement in the PSEF. Currently, Gershon is the Acting Director of the Research, Economic Policy and Planning unit at DEDAT. Gershon’s more than 24 year working career includes more than 10 years’ experience as an Economist/ Senior Researcher within the public sector and 14 years in the private sector within the retail and insurance/banking sectors. Concurrent to the above, he had worked for more than 10 years at Milpark Education as a part-time contractor, more than 6 years tutor/ lecturing experience at UNISA and 6 months lecturing experience at UWC. Lastly, he possesses a Masters in Economics from Stellenbosch University, post and undergrad degrees in Economics from UWC, complemented by a 6-month student exchange at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Fun fact: In another life, Gershon would sell his left shoe and use the money to travel from the northern lights to the South Pole – and everything in-between.
